| There’s no single way to make a go of a life in dance. But too often, young dancers limit themselves and thus their options. Not so Desiree
Robbins. |
When we are
faced with those
inane questions
from our
students’
parents, what we
actually say and
what we want to
say are often as
different as
Kool-Aid and
tequila. |

an escalating

competitiveness
has become
fiercer than

On My Mind |

Rhee Gold |
| Watching the kids made me nostalgic for my days as a young dancer. At 10, I did my first competition dance, a duet to “Harrigan,” with my twin brother, Rennie. |
Two of my main
teachers, each
of whom worked
approximately 25
hours per week
for me, opened
their own school
very close to my
location. Not
only were they
members of my
faculty, but I
had taught them
dance since they
were 5 years
old. |
