on choreography, successful performances, new
programs for both recreational and intensive
dancers. As director of the nationally
acclaimed Sherry Gold Dance Studios, Rennie
has built a successful business doing it
differently than the rest. He's managed to
maintain an enormously successful recreational
program, while retaining an intensive program
that produces dancers who move on to
professional careers, and some of the most
prestigious university and college programs,
including Julliard. You'll be amazed by his
passion for teaching and the dance life!

outstanding mentor to hundreds and hundreds of
young people. His school has been recognized
for excellence by all the major dance
publications, dance organizations,

benefit for the National Foundation for
Advancement in the Arts (NFAA).

The
Dancing CEO
Ellen Ferreira will speak on how studio
owners are no different than CEOs of large
corporations, and how they can integrate
corporate management techniques and
strategies into their businesses. Featured
topics will include: the role of a CEO, what
a CEO should and shouldn’t spend time on,
how to set priorities, how to put a cohesive
team together, personnel issues such as
firing, and best practices.
Ellen Ferreira is President of Costume
Gallery, a leading manufacturer of dance
costumes. Ellen joined the New Jersey
company (that her parents founded) in 1998
after 25 years in the Washington, DC area,
where she was a legislative aide on Capitol
Hill and manager at the Department of
Agriculture. She runs Costume Gallery with
her husband, Rick, who is President of
United Dance Merchants of America. They have
three grown children and one granddaughter.

Your Bottom Line-Generating Additional Income
Steve Barnett will speak on how studio owners
can generate more income from their studios,
covering everything from increasing tuition
and costume fees to fundraising and using
studio space to make additional income. He
will discuss ways for studio owners to use
their facilities, faculty, and existing
student base to increase revenue, as well as
business plans and new enrollment ideas.
Steve Barnett has spent his entire business
career figuring out how to turn larger profits
from businesses. He has hands-on knowledge in
both operations and merchandising for large
and small companies. His resume includes Sears
Store Manager, General Manager of a one
hundred million dollar retail company,
Director of Merchandising at Hershey,
President and CEO of his own 17-store gourmet
housewares company, and most recently,
Vice-President of Marketing for Curtain Call

Recitals
101
Join recital expert Paulette Harwood,
interviewed by Rhee Gold, on the topic of
producing professional recitals or year-end
performances. Discussions will include theme
and/or concept ideas, scenery and backdrops,
costuming, planning, organization, promotion,
and using your recital as a marketing tool.
Together we’ll create a design for an annual
schedule and a recital handbook that will help
to make your recital experience a pleasure for
everyone involved. Also participating in
Recital 101 will be representatives from
costume and backdrop companies.
Paulette Harwood has owned and operated two
successful schools in Medfield and Newton, MA
since 1960. Known for producing some of the
most professional and entertaining recitals in
the country, Harwood will share her knowledge
and expertise with Project Motivate
