Perform-A-Thon Raises Funds for Your Studio: On Saturday, April 29, 2006, in celebration of National Dance Week, thousands of dance students across the United States will be attempting to set a World Record for the most people performing in one hour simultaneously across the country. They will also be raising money for Project Action Foundation to prevent juvenile crime and get more children involved in Performing Arts Programs. Project Action, founded in October 1994, is a national award-winning children’s charity whose mission is to prevent juvenile crime by providing disadvantaged and “at-risk” children the opportunity to become involved in physical, cultural and performing arts programs. Project Action is currently working with over 3,500 gymnastics, martial arts and dance studios. Project Action provides each studio with simple to use Perform-A-Thon kits containing color poster, pledge sheets, press releases, parent and participant instructions and prizes for participating students. Project Action also provides each participating studio with an Event Specialist who will lead each studio, step by step, through the National Dance Week World Record Perform-A-Thon, being held at their studio. These specialists help each studio obtain media coverage, local government recognition and motivating their students. The Project Action Event Specialist also applies on behalf of each participating studio for matching funds from such corporations as Wal-Mart and Target. The funds raised at each participating studio returns to that studio in the form of tuition for disadvantaged children. For more information or to receive your free National Dance Week World Record Perform-A-Thon Fundraising Kit, please call toll free 888-343-5437 and/or visit www.projectaction.com.

The 5th Annual Mid-Michigan National Dance Week (MMNDW) celebration begins April 21st at Westwood Mall in Jackson, Michigan. Mid-Michigan expands it's efforts this year and takes NDW to Lansing, the state Capital! On Saturday, April 29th, the NDW Rose City Rosettes Kickline will perform at the first annual "Kickline at the Capital"; later that day, the same group will help kick off a 2nd weekend of performances at the Lansing Mall. The NDW Rose City Rosettes is a new group this year and is made up of 25 local dancers dedicated to promoting the mission of NDW. NDW events began in Jackson in April 2002 and it has been the current State Director's, Linda Busche, vision to take it to the Capital since its beginning. The events at both malls will feature performances by local dance and performing arts studios. Much effort is being put forth to involve additional ethnic style dance groups, with special focus on ballroom. Any dance group wishing to perform at either of these locations should contact Linda Busche at the number above. The past events have featured up to 17 studios representing over 600 dancers and 3000 spectators. Participating studios are encouraged to promote themselves via recital videos, photo display boards and flyers listing their classes. Each event will also feature the NDW Children’s Spokescharacter, Angelina Ballerina™, Storytimes and a "Parade and Dance-n-Play" program. There will be several other activities for dancer's including the popular "I Love Dance Because...." a short essay contest, a special Angelina Ballerina™ coloring contest. Contacts have been made with our local media and we may be featured on one of their ˝-hour segments. The goal of the Mid-Michigan National Dance Week committee is to present an opportunity for all dance and performing arts studios to showcase their talent and let our community know just how beneficial dance can be for anyone. There are performance times still available for both events so anyone interested should contact Linda as soon as possible.
