Tracy Bauer-Durso,
author of The Definitive Guide to Dance Studio Marketing,
has worked in marketing and public relations in the
performing arts since 1992, and is an instructor of ballet and
jazz in Massachusetts. A graduate of the DMA Teacher Training
School, she holds a degree in business and marketing from
Miami University.
Mignon Furman
is the founder and director of the American Academy of Ballet
and the composer of the Performance Awards and other teaching
programs. The former director of the University of Cape Town
Ballet School, she was nominated for the university’s
Distinguished Teaching Award.
Dance Studio Life
publisher Rhee Gold grew up in dance studios and later
operated his own. He has performed and choreographed
professionally, owned a leading dance competition, presided
over national dance teaching organizations, and founded
Project Motivate to reinvigorate dance teachers. His book,
The Complete Guide to Teaching Dance, is in its second
printing.
Diane Gudat
is from Indianapolis, IN, where she has owned her own school,
The Dance Company, Inc., since 1979. She is the author of four
books on dance education, including Acrobatics for the
Dance Studio and The Time Step Dictionary. Gudat
has served as a faculty member for the DMA, DTCB, FDM, and the
CNADM Teacher Training Schools.
Melissa Hoffman
has owned and operated Melissa Hoffman Dance Center fore 19
years. The Area 1 VP for DMA, she has also served as a faculty
member and adjudicator for several national organizations. She
is excited to be on the faculty of the 2008 DanceLife Teacher
Conference.
Shevon McBride
owned and directed a studio for 20 years. As a creative
business consultant, she is sought after for her knowledge of
the dance world and her keen business sense— both keys to a
successful school. She has been a guest speaker at Rhee Gold’s
DanceLife Teacher Conference, sharing her business and
creative ideas for studio owners.
Tom Ralabate
is an associate professor of dance at the University at
Buffalo [NY], where he has served as dance director, assistant
chair of dance, and director of Zodiaque Dance Company, UB’s
resident troupe. He has served on international and national
dance faculties for all major dance organizations and is
currently the national chair for Strategic Educational
Planning for Dance Masters of America.
Stephanie Steinmeyer
owns Hawthorn Dance and Gymnastics in Versailles, MO. A former
gymnastics coach and judge, she opened her first dance studio
18 years ago. Her goal is to encourage children to realize
that success is based on effort—that they can accomplish great
things with hard work, passion, and spirit.
Debbie Werbrouck,
MDE, has directed three Indiana locations of Debbie
Werbrouck’s School of Dance for 38 years and is the founder
and director of Patchwork Dance Company. A former faculty
member of St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN, and a past
president of Chicago National Association of Dance Masters,
Werbrouck is co-chair of the dance coalition UNITY.
Nancy Wozny
was an NEA Fellow at the Institute for Dance Criticism at the
American Dance Festival and a 2004 recipient of the Gary Parks
Memorial Award for Emerging Dance Critics. Her work has
appeared in Dance Magazine, The Houston Chronicle,
Artshouston, and other publications. She is also a
guild-certified practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method.
Susan Yung
is a New York–based freelancer specializing in dance and art.
