Rosemarie DeLutis Boyden’s
distinguished career includes more than 50 years of teaching,
both at her own school and as a master teacher. She has
established a preschool curriculum course for teachers and
serves on the faculty of the Dance Masters of America Teacher
Training School.
Janette Brown
has owned and directed a dance studio since 1967 and has judged
and taught master classes throughout North America. A member of
Dance Masters of America since 1968, she has held every elected
DMA office, including national president. She and her students,
many of whom have become professional dancers, teachers, or
school owners, performed at the White House on seven occasions.
Mignon Furman
is
the founder and director of the American Academy of Ballet and
the composer of the Performance Awards and other teaching
programs. The former director of the University of Cape Town
Ballet School, she was nominated for the university’s
Distinguished Teaching Award.
Diane Gudat
is
from Indianapolis, IN, where she has owned her own school, The
Dance Company, Inc., since 1979. She is the author of four books
on dance education, including Acrobatics for the Dance Studio
and The Time Step Dictionary. Gudat has served as a
faculty member for the DMA, DTCB, FDM, and the CNADM Teachers
Training Schools.
Terrie Legein,
owner/director of Legein Dance Academy in Coventry, RI, is a
member of Dance Masters of America, Dance Teachers Club of
Boston, and Dance Alliance of Rhode Island. She serves as vice
president, delegate director, and membership chair for DMA
Chapter 5. In 2000 she received the Bachna Scholarship for
Leadership and Dedication to Dance Education from DMA TTS in
Buffalo, NY.
Annette Looper
still feels joy and satisfaction from working with young dancers
after 34 years of teaching. Her former students perform for Walt
Disney World, on Broadway, and with Dayton Contemporary Dance
Company and Dayton Ballet. She continues to attend classes to
further her dance training and teaching techniques. She also
judges for competitions internationally and teaches master
classes across the United States.
Alison McCall
began
dancing at age 3 and continues to train at Emerson College,
where she is a sophomore majoring in journalism and minoring in
political communication. She has studied jazz, lyrical, ballet,
modern, musical theater, tap, and hip-hop.
Cheryl Ossola
is
a former Dance Magazine associate editor and the editor
of Rhee Gold’s book, The Complete Guide to Teaching Dance.
As a freelance writer and editor, her clients have included
Dance Magazine, San Francisco Ballet, and Human Kinetics
book publishers, among others. She holds a BA in theater from
The College of William and Mary and has trained in various dance
forms.
Tom Ralabate
is
an associate professor of dance at the University at Buffalo
[NY], where he has served as dance director, assistant chair of
dance, and director of Zodiaque Dance Company, UB’s resident
troupe. He has served on international and national dance
faculties for all major dance organizations and is currently the
National Chair for Strategic Educational Planning for Dance
Masters of America.
Jennifer Rienert
has owned and directed New Hampshire School of Ballet for 14
years. She is a certified teacher with Dance Masters of America
and served on its board of directors for the past three years.
Besides teaching at her school, she judges competitions both
regionally and nationally and teaches master classes throughout
New England.
Texas-based Anne L. Silveri, a former dancer, writes
about dance, theater, and opera for various publications.
Shelia Vaught
owned and operated Little Rock School of Dance for 30 years. She
holds a BSE from the University of Central Arkansas and is a
graduate of Joyce Newman’s training school for dance teachers. A
certified member and past president of the Southern Association
of Dance Masters, she has served on numerous civic boards and is
executive director of the Sister Cities Foundation.
Caryl Voorhees
sold her school after owning it for 19 years and is writing a
book about starting, running, and selling a successful dance
studio. These days her passion is her new business, Consulting
on the Spot. She is enjoying more time with her husband of 35
years, Carl, and her new grandson.
Nancy Wozny
was a NEA fellow at the Institute for Dance Criticism at the
American Dance Festival and a 2004 recipient of the Gary Parks
Memorial Award for Emerging Dance Critics. Her work has appeared
in Dance Magazine, The Houston Chronicle, Artshouston,
and other publications. She is a guild-certified practitioner of
the Feldenkrais Method.® F
