The
Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston, Inc. and the American Society
Honor Rhee Gold
By Theresa Grenier
On March
18, 2007, the Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston, Inc. and The
American Society, under the presidency of Eleanor Boyle,
awarded Rhee Gold with honorary membership to the club in
recognition of distinguished achievement in the world of
dance.
The award
was presented to Gold at a luncheon honoring him, which
included the installation of new members to the Dance
Teachers’ Club of Boston and The American Society [DTCB/AS].
Held as part of the Club’s Spring Convention at the Lantana in
Randolph, MA, the luncheon was attended by long-time DTCB/AS
members, as well as Gold’s brothers, Rennie and Tony,
sister-in-law Kim, and other special guests.
According
to Gold, “This [honorary membership] is a very special honor
because I grew up attending the Dance Teachers’ Club’s
workshops, I am a graduate of their Teacher Training School,
and my mother was an active member of the organization. I have
known many of the members for my entire life . . . to be
honored by the people and the place where you come from is
extra special!”
Gold, the
publisher of Goldrush magazine and president of the
Rhee Gold Company, is a long-time dance veteran, having been
introduced to dance at his mother’s school at age 3.
He has
served as president of Dance Masters of New England and as
national president of Dance Masters of America. As the
founding chair of UNITY, Gold has worked closely with the
leaders of most of America’s dance-teach er
organizations, helping to build relationships among all
educators.
Gold is
also the founder of the Project Motivate inspirational seminar
for dance teachers, which this year takes on a new incarnation
as the
DanceLife
Teacher Conference.
Upon
receiving his honorary member status, Gold was presented with
a plaque from the Club, prominently featured on which was a
poem in Gold’s honor, written by past DTCB president Jeannie
Rizzo. Entitled “The Journey of a Dance Man: Rhee
Gold,” the poem honors the road Gold has taken in his
career, first as a performer, then as a teacher, and now as a
mentor.
Included at
the bottom of the poem is a dedication by Rizzo, declaring the
poem, “A Tribute to Rhee Gold, From all your Fellow Members
of DTCB/AS and on behalf of Dancers everywhere, Teachers and
Students alike.”
Rizzo’s dedication continues,
“We have
all known the benefit of your great love and endless
dedication to the Art and the Joy that is Dance! For that, we
send you our Love, Appreciation, Respect, and Heartfelt
Thanks. As you continue to grow, the Dance field will continue
to grow - because Dance Teachers and Students will continue to
be enhanced by your delight, your enthusiasm, your sharing and
your caring!”

About the Dance
Teacher’s Club of Boston, Inc. and the American Society
The Dance
Teachers' Club of Boston was founded in 1914, and its
affiliate, the American Society of Teachers of Dancing, was
established in 1879. The organization originally began w ith
80 members and now has a membership of over 500. These members
come from all over the United States, Canada and Europe.
The objectives of the Club are to elevate and advance the art
of dance in all its educational aspects and to encourage

September, November, January and March. These meetings present
classes conducted by outstanding faculty in Performing Arts
and Ballroom, as well as a business meetings, which cover
matters of importance to the Club, its members and the
industry in general.
In 1941 a course was started for those students wishing to
strengthen and broaden their dance education. Currently called
the Dance Education Training Course, it is held every summer.
Student workshops are also available to students of members at
the November and March meetings and at the summer convention.
The Dance Teachers' Club of Boston, Inc. and The American
